Make a Fashion Statement!

www.gabrieladror.com (C)2013 Cindy Cheng Photography, all rights reserved.

Headpieces have evolved into a fashion accessory that is not to be overlooked. They have moved on from being a practical item to become a fashion statement that brings out one's character.

At first they were symbols of wealth and stature - only royalty were allowed to wear them, they were also worn as protection during war and against weather elements and then only in the 20th century they became an expression of style.

Today, designer hats are just the way to use the trend on your head and express something totally fresh. Hats add a mysterious element and a touch of glamour. Celebrities have also brought new attention to hats, for example, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Willians and Beyoncé, who is rarely seen without a headpiece.

Whether off to church with a vintage wide brim from the grandparents, or with an elaborate Philip Treacy to the races, hats have a certain sense of occasion. But as the trend of handmade and artisanal continues, designer hats (mostly made by meticulous hands) are just the way to use the trend on your head and express something totally fresh. Or the other option is, like Lady Gaga does, to use hats as publicity stunts and to attract more than just a little attention.

You're not sure of when to wear a hat or a headpiece? At the beach, at a brunch, while hiking, to the country club, at a bar or in a night club as a great way to stand out from the crown and be noticed.

Do you want to get a real statement and unique piece? Then if that's the case, having Gabriela Dror  in your designer list and on speed dial (www.gabrieladror.com) is a must. Not only is she an amazing designer, she is a great entrepreneur with an inspiring story and an incredible career. If you visit her website or her Facebook page you’ll see her beautiful pieces and all the work she’s been doing through the years. You can even get a custom designed piece for that special event you know you already have in mind. When you give her a call make sure you tell her Escarle from Alira Boutique Spa & Salon sent you, you won’t regret it.

Be bold, make a statement!

Think pink!

October is just around the corner, which means colder weather, a ton of seasonal products and Halloween. However, October is also the month of Breast Cancer Awareness, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. While most people are aware of breast cancer, many forget to take the steps to have a plan to detect the disease in its early stages and encourage others to do the same.

According to the American Cancer Society, the lifetime risk of a woman in the United States of getting breast cancer is one out of eight. That means that that one woman will be facing a tough treatment regime and the unrelenting effects of cancer, which will often leave her tired, hurting, and undermine her self-esteem.
That’s why we've decided to help the brave women who are fighting or have survived this disease in the best way we can: Giving them a little pampering time! So, throughout October we will be giving complimentary "Alira Signature" facials to all breast cancer patients and survivors.

Do you know someone who might benefit from our little treat? Remember to call us first so we can book her a special appointment!

Running for a cause

A couple of years ago, I wouldn’t have ever imagined using the word “marathoner” to describe myself; I could barely run around the block, much less 26.2 miles. But, as all good stories begin, one autumn Sunday, as I was having my usual breakfast one little question crept up in my head: “why don’t you go out for a run?” Those first few laps around the block seemed like a titanic task, but as I started gaining momentum I felt empowered by one single thought. “I can do this!” As the first miles started to pile up and I began to run more seriously, the transition between running for fun and running to a reach a goal was quite natural.

When I thought about the biggest goal I could reach, I thought about one of the most famous marathons in the world, The New York City marathon and its 26.2 miles. That seemed like an ambitious yet attainable goal, and while I was at it, why not do something that I enjoy while helping others? That was the exact moment when I decided not only to run the 2014 TCS New York City Marathon, but to do it with Team for Kids.

Yes, I'll be one of those little dots.

Team for Kids is a team of volunteers who raise funds for critical services provided by New York Road Runners Youth Programs. These programs combat childhood obesity and empower youth development via running and character-building programs in low-income schools and community centers in New York City, throughout the country and in Africa. While I’m helping Team for Kids as a runner, you can make a difference by clicking here and making a donation! The collected money will help New York Road Runners Youth Programs continue their lovely labor throughout the country and, if you bring the receipt to the spa you'll get a travel sized Kerastase product as a gift!

Hopefully I’ll see you at the finish line.

Giving back is the new black

Here in Alira we believe that giving back never goes out of style, so when our lovely client Marian Sabat told us that she wanted to make a donation to Locks of Love, we couldn't be happier to be a part of such an event.

Marian, prior to her haircut.

For those who don’t know, Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis by utilizing donated ponytails to provide hair prosthetics.

Seeing as Marian's hair is very healthy, the procedure was quite easy: We gave it a quick wash and then braided it until we achieved the 10 inch braid that is required by Locks of Love.

After everything was said and done, both Marian and I were completely ecstatic over another Alira Transformation that would help little kids in need.

Want to make a donation to Locks of Love? Visit their site, check out their guidelines for acceptable hair donations and then give us a call to book your appointment! We’re more than happy to help and support such a great cause.

            Lots of love,
