Ask Escarle

The holidays are just around the corner, so we thought that it was the perfect time for Escarle to answer another round of your questions. Are you guys ready?

Q: Hi Escarle! How do I pick the perfect red lipstick?

A:Picking the perfect red lipstick isn't a science, but a matter of mixing and matching. If you have fair skin, orange-reds are going to pop quite a bit more as brighter colors are more noticeable on paler skin. This doesn’t mean if you have pale skin, you can’t make it work- it just means, it’s going to pop more. Darker skin beauties have an easier time pulling off the orange-reds since dark skin can handle brighter colors- there’s less of a contrast. But darker skin also looks beautiful in blue reds- it just doesn’t pop as much as the orange reds.

Q: I'm growing my hair out and I'm wondering how often should I cut my hair. Can you help me?

A: If your hair is in pretty good condition, meaning you don’t color it or use excessive heat styling tools, you can go from 4-8 weeks in between cuts. If your hair reaches your collar bone or is a bit shorter, you should have a trim every 4 to 6 weeks. However, if your mane is on the longer spectrum, you should have a trim every 6 to 8 weeks.

Q: I have really dark hair and I want to spice it up for the holidays. What should I do?

A: A great way to enhance very dark hair is to start to add pieces of a much warmer shade. Reds, coppers or violets can be chosen, depending on the person’s skin tone. These shades can be soft or very intense depending on the wanted outcome. But if you're feeling more adventurous yet hesitant about how it will look against your skin tone, the soft ombré or 'sombré' trend may just be the thing for you. Lightening the ends of your hair is a great way to play around with color, without the worry of having to grow it out!
